Contributor terms
The terms for reviews, corrections, news links, single listing links, photos, documents and anything else you send That's Built for publication ("your contribution"). Last updated 8 November 2026.
These terms apply when you send a contribution, along with our terms of use and privacy policy. Agencies sending listings by feed or API agree to the listing data licence instead of section 2 below.
1. What you promise
When you send a contribution, you confirm that:
- it's honest: facts are true as far as you know, and a review is your own genuine experience of the building
- you've told us your real connection to the building, and you aren't being paid or rewarded for a review, or reviewing a competitor
- you own it, or have permission to send it and to give us the licence below, including for any photo
- anyone who can be identified in a photo or document has agreed to it being shared
- it doesn't name private individuals, make allegations you can't back up, or share someone's personal details
- it doesn't break the law or anyone else's rights, and you're at least 18 or have a parent's permission
2. What you let us do with it
You keep ownership of your contribution. You give That's Built a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to store, copy, edit, summarise and publish it on That's Built and in our building reports, and to let the companies that help us run the site handle it for that purpose. This licence lasts until the contribution is removed under section 5, and covers facts already corrected on a page because of it.
We may edit your contribution for length, clarity and privacy, and publish it without naming you. You consent to us doing this, including anything that would otherwise infringe your moral rights. We don't pay for contributions.
3. How we check contributions
A person checks contributions before they appear, with AI assistance. We may publish, edit or decline a contribution. Where a review includes something risky, such as an allegation, we may decline it or use it only in an overall summary of what residents say, without quoting it.
We don't remove a review because it's negative, and we don't accept payment to publish, hide or remove one.
4. What a published contribution means
Reviews are the views of the people who wrote them, not ours. Your first name appears only if you ask for that when you send a review.
5. Changing your mind
You can ask us to remove your review, photo or other contribution through a privacy request. We'll remove it from the site, usually within a few days. It can take longer to leave backups, and a fact we've checked and corrected on a page may stay.
6. Problems with a contribution
If you think a contribution is wrong or unfair, use Report content. If yours breaks these terms, we may remove it and stop accepting contributions from you.
7. Changes and law
If we change these terms we'll update them here and change the date at the top. Changes apply to contributions sent after that date. These terms are governed by the law of Victoria, Australia.
