Privacy policy
What we collect when you use That's Built, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. Last updated 8 November 2026.
That's Built runs thatsbuilt.com ("we", "us"). We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988.
What we collect
You can read That's Built without giving us anything. We collect personal information when you send it through a form:
- Listing requests and single listings: your name, email and phone number if you give it, your agency, ABN and role, and the listing or feed details.
- Building claims: your name, email, company, ABN, website and role.
- Buying, renting or leasing enquiries: your name, email and phone number if you give it, and what you're looking for, including your budget and timing if you tell us.
- Corrections: what you suggest, your source, and your name and email if you give them.
- Reviews: your rating and review, your connection to the building, your email, and your first name if you give it.
- Following a building: your email and the building.
- News stories, reports and other messages: your name, email and what you tell us.
Please don't send us anything sensitive, such as health information, or personal details about other people. Like most websites, ours also creates technical records of visits, such as IP addresses, which we use to keep the site running and secure.
Why we use it
We use your information to reply to you, check and act on what you sent, verify a claim or listing request (for example by checking an email domain or ABN), send the building updates you asked for, and keep the site accurate and free of spam. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't send marketing you haven't asked for.
What we publish
Your email and phone number are never published. A review is only published after we've checked it, and shows your first name only if you tick the box asking us to. We may change a page because of a correction you suggest, without naming you. The contributor terms explain how we use what you send for publication.
Who else handles it
- Cloudflare protects and delivers the site, and processes technical details of each visit, such as your IP address.
- DigitalOcean hosts the site on a server in Singapore. What you send through a form is stored there until we move it to our own systems in Australia, usually within a day, and then removed from that server.
- Google provides the maps and Street View on building pages. When these load, your browser connects to Google. See the Google Privacy Policy.
- Real estate agents: if you send a buying, renting or leasing enquiry, we may pass your details and enquiry to an agent for that building so they can reply to you.
These providers operate in other countries, so your information may be sent to or stored in Singapore, the United States and other places where they run their services. We may also share information when the law requires it.
Cookies
That's Built doesn't set advertising or analytics cookies. Cloudflare may set a cookie to help tell people from bots, and Google may set its own cookies when its maps and Street View load.
How long we keep it, and how we protect it
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. We keep it for as long as we need it for the reasons above, then delete it. A published review stays while it's on the site. You can ask us to delete your information sooner, though it can take longer to leave backups.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold about you, or stop following a building, through a privacy request. We aim to reply within 30 days.
If you think we've handled your information badly, tell us the same way and we'll look into it. If you aren't happy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
People named on building pages
Building pages can name people where it's part of a building's public record, such as a director of a development company or an architect. We find these names in public sources such as news stories, company websites and council records, and we check pages for private people's names before publishing. If you're named and want it changed or removed, use Report content.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
